Strategic Cooperation Agreement from Tekfen

Tekfen signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Thornton Tomasetti, which has been providing engineering design, research and analysis services on worldwide projects since 1956.

The signing ceremony for the cooperation between the two companies that are set to work together on new projects worldwide, took place at Thornton Tomasetti's head office in New York. Thornton Tomasetti was represented by the president of the company Mr. Raymond Daddazio and its senior executives while Tekfen was represented by Mr. Levent Kafkaslı, the Vice President of Tekfen Holding in charge of the Contracting Group, and Mr. Barış Altıparmak, Tekfen Construction's Baku Office Manager of.

A Torossian in the world's roof organization of the fertilizer industry!

Ms. Burcu Türkeş, Sustainability and Governance Director of Toros Agri, was selected to join the Strategic Advisory Team of the Technical & SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) Committee at the International Fertilizer Association (IFA)!

Toros Agri has a long history with IFA, an association founded in 1927 and known for its important role in ensuring world food safety through efficient and planned production of plant nutrients. Mr. Erhan Öner, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Toros Fertilizer (1993-1995), and Ms. Esin Mete, former Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Toros Agri (2013-2014), also assumed the chairmanship of IFA which made significant contributions to the world fertilizer industry.

Tekfen to Start Work on its 6th Platform in Bakû

Azfen, an Azerbaijan company in which Tekfen Construction holds a 40% stake, has signed a contract for the building and erecting of a drilling and production platform in the Azeri-Çırak-Güneşli oilfield in the Caspian Sea. The new offshore platform, which will have a weight of 17,000 tons and will cost 486.3 million US Dollars, is part of an investment initiative in the oilfield that is currently being developed by BP Exploration. Included within the scope of the project are the construction and delivery of the drilling module, service units and living quarters. In accordance with the size of its stake in the Azfen company, Tekfen Construction's share in the project, which is expected to finish in 38 months, will amount to 194.5 million US Dollars.

 Tekfen Construction on the Rise!

According to the survey carried out annually by ENR (Engineering News Record), regarded as one of the most highly-respected publications giving information on the contractorship sector, Tekfen Construction has jumped 29 places during the last year. In the ENR's 'Top International 250 Contractors' listings for 2019, Tekfen Construction has now risen to 69th place.

A total of 44 Turkish firms are listed in the ENR survey. Tekfen Construction is ranked third among them, behind Rönesans (in 33rd place) and Limak (in 67th).

A New Spurt of Export Growth for Toros Agri

Toros Agri, Turkey's leading fertiliser exporter for the last two years, has signed an agreement for the purchase of the Romanian sales and distribution operations of Nutrien, the world's largest fertiliser manufacturer.

Toros Agri, Turkey's largest manufacturer of fertiliser and the leader in this sector, is taking initiatives to become a regional player. With this goal in mind, on 29 July 2019 Toros Agri signed a share purchase agreement that will bring Agrium-Agroport Romania S.A., a company engaged in the sale and distribution of fertiliser in Romania, into the Toros Agri fold.

Tekfen Agri and Sabancı University Co-operate over Innovation

Tekfen Agri, one of Turkey's leading companies in the area of agricultural production, has signed an agreement with the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), one of Turkey's major research centers, foreseeing co-operation between the two with regard to research and development activities focusing on agriculture and the development of new technologies.

Alanar Exports Cherries to China

Alanar Fruit, a Tekfen Agri subsidiary, has entered the Chinese market with its cherries - a product that has recently been found worthy of an award by the Bruseel based International Taste Institute.

As a result of DEİK (Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board) and the Turkish government's dedicated efforts, Alanar is one of only eight Turkish firms that are now licensed to export cherries to ChinaThe first batch of Alanar cherries to China were imported by Shenzhen Kingship, China's largest foodstuffs importer, and is now in the markets of Shanghai.

HEP İstanbul Voted 'Most Sustainable Housing Development'

İstanbul Music Festival Opens with the Tekfen Philharmonic

The 47th İstanbul Music Festival, organised by the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and centred around the theme 'Darkness of Being, Lightness of Being', made its opening with a concert by the Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra at the Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Centre on the evening of 10 June. The Tekfen Philharmonic is in fact to give the opening concerts of the next three İstanbul Music Festivals as well.

At the opening concert of this year's festival the orchestra, conducted by Aziz Shokhakimov, accompanied the 24-year-old South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 1 in C major, Op. 15. Described by the world's classical music authorities as 'poetic and appealing', Seong-Jin Cho was the winner of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 2015. After the performance, he received a standing ovation lasting several minutes.

Tekfen Holding-SOCAR Co-operation Expands to Include Production Facilities

For many years, Tekfen Holding has been serving SOCAR (Azerbaijan's State Oil Company) in the role of contractor, helping SOCAR to realise its investment projects. Now the scope of this co-operation is being expanded to cover production facilities.

Tekfen Construction has been a main contractor of SOCAR's major oil and gas investment projects and superstructures. These projects have been carried out partly on Tekfen Construction's own account and partly in conjunction with Azfen, a locally-based company set up jointly by Tekfen and SOCAR.

Recently, a sizeable team of Tekfen management visited Baku on the occasion of the UEFA Europa League Final, played on 29 May in the Baku Olympic Stadium - a stadium built by Tekfen Construction on a turnkey basis that included engineering and procurement. During this time, the Tekfen management team had meetings in Baku and signed a Protocol with SOCAR regarding a new strategic partnership that is shortly to come into effect.

Tekfen Foundation launches Music Scholarship Programme on 20th Anniversary

The Tekfen Foundation, one of Turkey's leading private institutions in the field of the arts, is adding a new strand to its support for classical music on its 20th anniversary: a programme of Music Scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is to train competent musicians for Turkey's orchestras, starting with but by no means limited to Tekfen Philharmonic. Available to students of music under Turkish citizenship who have chosen orchestral playing as their future career, it will provide support for young musicians receiving training at undergraduate (first degree) level at abroad.

Applications for scholarships should be addressed to the Tekfen website - www.tekfen.com.tr - no later than 7 June. Following an initial assessment, applicants who pass this initial stage will then be invited to attend an interview in Istanbul on 19 June at which they will face a jury and display their musical skills.

Toros Agri acquires 70% stake in organic fertiliser manufacturer Gönen Renewable Energy Production, Inc.

Toros Agri, Turkey's largest producer of fertiliser and the leader in this sector, has added organic fertiliser to its product portfolio-a move made in accordance with the company's aim of supplying farmers with every type of fertiliser they need. By acquiring a 70% stake in Gönen Renewable Energy Production, Inc., a company that produces biogas and organic fertiliser, Toros Agri intends to become a major player in the markets of organic and organomineral fertilisers, a sector whose market potential is expected to increase in response to changing agricultural policies.

100% Tekfen Agri

In accordance with its strategic aim of acquiring a strong presence in the field of agricultural production, at the beginning of 2018 the Tekfen Group bought a 90% stake in one of Turkey's largest producers of premium fruit-Alanar Meyve ("Alanar Fruit") and its sister company Alara Nursery, which grow and sell fruit tree saplings.

In May 2019, Tekfen Agri acquired all the remaining shares belonging to the founding partners, thus bringing both companies completely into the Tekfen fold.

Work goes on safely at GATE Construction!

GATE Construction, the Tekfen Construction company that operates in Kazakhstan, is continuing its successful work on the projects it has undertaken in the Tengiz Oil and Gas Field, which has one of the world's largest oil and gas reserves. GATE is currently carrying out three projects for Tengizchevroil within the scope of a giant-sized Future Growth Project (FGP) investment initiative.

During the 1650 days that have gone by since the Tengiz Projects began, GATE has achieved 10 million man-hours of work without a single working day lost through accident-and this in spite of the fact that the vehicles involved in the project have travelled a total of 20 million km. We congratulate all our colleagues who have contributed to this highly important success, and very much hope that their work will continue to be accident-free.

Darüşşafaka Tekfen at Boğaziçi Sports Fest

Over the weekend of 9-12 May, Darüşşafaka Tekfen Basketball Team was the guest of the Boğaziçi University Sports Fest, in which a total of 17 Turkish and 16 foreign universities took part. This was the 39th time the festival had been held.

Every year, around 1000 athletes (including, on average, 500 from foreign countries) participate in this festival, held on the South Campus at Boğaziçi University. In addition to the sports tournaments, which take place over four days, there are a number of other activities and shows of various kinds. On the last day of the Fest, the Darüşşafaka Tekfen Basketball Team played a demonstration match against the Sports Fest All-Star Team. Darüşşafaka Tekfen were out in full force-bringing along their brass band, dance team and Dado, the club's mascot!

Tekfen's 15th Seniority Award Ceremony

Tekfen held its fifteenth Seniority Award Ceremony.

Seniority Award Ceremonies, held in İstanbul, Adana and at overses' construction sites in order to honour long-standing employees are a much awaited tradition at Tekfen. This year's events, 15th in a row since the first of their kind in 2004, witnessed as many as 285 Tekfen employees receive their awards accompanied by their colleagues and family members. With the addition of this year's recipients, a total of 3877 employees have earned the right to their Seniority Award.

A Clear Road Ahead for the Qatar World Cup Thanks to Tekfen Construction

Tekfen Construction, which has been engaged in a number of major infrastructure and industrial projects in Qatar since 2005, has completed the 'Al Khor Expressway' Project - which according to the agreement signed with the State of Qatar was due to be completed within 36 months - one year before the guaranteed date. The contract for the construction of the Al Khor Expressway is the largest ever signed at one time by the company.

The opening ceremony of a portion of the Expressway by Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani was attended by Selahaddin Menteş (Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey), Fikret Özer (Turkish Ambassador in Doha), Cahit Oklap (Tekfen Holding Group Companies President), Ümit Özdemir (Tekfen Holding Consultant) and Alpaslan Sümer (Tekfen Construction's Senior VP), as well as by the project team.

Toros Agri Tops 2018 Turkish Fertiliser Exports

Toros Agri has been the champion ofchemical fertilizer export in 2018. At an event hosted by the Istanbul Chemical and Chemical Product Exporters Association (İKMİB), the leading exporter's award was received by Toros Agri Chairman Hakan Göral. While the company's export figure for 2017 was 273, 095 tons; in 2018, owing to the opening up of new export markets, that figure rose to 353,897 - a significant increase of 30%. Toros exported its goods to Morocco, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania in Africa; to Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Romania and Ukraine in Europe. Additional markets were Argentina, India, Israel and Lebanon.

"In 2018, we recorded a 30% increase in fertiliser exports over the previous year, thus achieving the highest level of exports in Toros Agri's history," Göral said. "We produced a total of 1,603,702 tons of fertiliser at our factories in Ceyhan, Mersin and Samsun, with an average capacity utilisation of 86%."

New Executive Board and Top Management at Tekfen Holding

A changing of the guard took place after Tekfen Holding's Ordinary General Assembly and Executive Board meeting on 27 March 2019. Osman Birgili, who has been serving in various positions in Tekfen Group companies since 1978 and was President of the Group Companies from 2013 onwards, was elected Vice Chairman of Tekfen Holding's Executive Board. Meanwhile, Cahit Oklap (who has been assuming various roles in the Group - especially with Tekfen Construction since 1983 - and whose most recent post was that of Chairman of Tekfen Construction's Executive Board) was appointed President, of Tekfen Group Companies.

Cahit Oklap said: "Having represented the Tekfen family for 36 years in various positions both in Turkey and abroad, I now feel greatly honoured to be chosen to represent Tekfen as Group Companies President. While serving in my new position, I will continue to uphold our institutional values. The prospect of carrying our company forward into the future together with our highly experienced team - and with the assistance, of course, of my younger colleagues - gives me a good deal of excitement."

Bomsori Kim brought spring to Tekfen Philharmonic!

The Tekfen Philharmonic greeted the arrival of spring with a series of concerts at which the soloist was the talented and young South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim. Kim performed Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1 in G minor (Op 26) together with the Tekfen Orchestra at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra's Concert Hall in Ankara on 20 March, and at the Lütfi Kırdar Concert Hall in Istanbul on 21 March.

Tekfen Holding Wins an Award for its Woman Board Members

Tekfen Holding has received an award in recognition of the fact that it has 4 women, of whom 3 are independent directors, on its Executive Board. The 'Women-Empowered Board' Award was presented at the 'Women on Executive Boards in Turkey' Conference.

The conference, the sixth of its kind, was organized by the Sabancı University Corporate Governance Forum and took place in Istanbul on 27 November 2018. During the proceedings, the 'Women on Executive Boards in Turkey' report for 2018 was presented. According to this report, out of the 403 companies listed on the Stock Exchange, Tekfen Holding came third in the listings for the proportion of women on its Executive Board, and was thus deemed worthy of a 'Women-Empowered Board' Award. First in the listings was Doğuş Otomotiv, while Tat Gıda ('Tat Foodstuffs') came second.

Two Awards for Tekfen from 'Capital' Magazine!

The 'CEO Agenda 2019' Summit, held within the framework of the traditional CEO Club Meetings jointly organized by the monthly Capital and weekly Ekonomist magazines, took place in November 2018. At the summit, the results of the 'Top Holdings 2018' survey, conducted by Capital, were announced. Among all the holding companies surveyed, Tekfen came second in the 'Fastest Increase in Manpower' category, and third in the 'Fastest Increase in Turnover' category. The awards were received by Chairman of the Board Murat Gigin at a special ceremony.

First in the 'Fastest Increase in Manpower' category was Rönesans Holding, with Yıldızlar Yatırım ('Yıldızlar Investments') in third place. In the 'Fastest Increase in Turnover' category, Tahincioğlu Holding came first, while Bilkent Holding took second place.

Two Tekfen Companies Listed in Platin Global 100 Index

In the Platin Global 100 Index, which is compiled by 'Platin' magazine with the assistance of IPSOS, an independent international market research company, Tekfen Construction was listed in 38th place, while Toros Agri was ranked 98th. In addition, Tekfen Construction was placed seventh in the rankings for the construction sector, and Toros Agri was placed eighth in the chemicals and plastics division.

This was the second time that 'Platin' magazine - which describes itself as 'Turkey's Most Dynamic Monthly Magazine for Economics and the Business World' and has now been running for 20 years - had distributed the awards, which are given to companies listed in the Platin Global 100 Index. The intention behind these awards is to give Turkish companies that are leaders both in exports and in promoting their country on the international platform the appreciation they deserve, and to present these companies to the business world in Turkey as role models by reason of their successful practices.

Italian trumpet player Omar Tomasoni and Tekfen Philharmonic's Assistant Conductor Sibil Arsenyan were the guests of İlksen Mavituna in an edition of the Açık Dergi ('Open Magazine') programme on the Açık Radyo ('Open Radio') channel. Tekfen Construction Rises in Fortune 500 Rankings

Fortune 500, which identifies the 500 largest companies in Turkey, has completed its survey of Turkish firms. The survey covers businesses in all sectors except financial institutions and holding companies. This year Tekfen Construction, which last year was placed 57th, has now risen to 45th place in the rankings. Turkish Oil Refineries (TÜPRAŞ) has maintained its position as leader, while Enerji Piyasaları İşletme A.Ş. (EPİAŞ) in second place and Petrol Ofisi in third have likewise held their places in the ordering.

Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Opened

The official opening of the first phase of the 'TANAP' Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Compressor Stations Project took place at a ceremony in Eskişehir yesterday. The 1850-kilometre pipeline is to transport Azerbaijan's natural gas to Europe via Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended by Turkish President Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Mr İlham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Also present were Mr Cahit Oklap (Chairman of the Board at Tekfen Construction), Board Member Mr Ümit Özdemir, President Mr Levent Kafkaslı and Vice President Mr Mustafa Kopuz. Tekfen Construction have successfully completed the construction of LOT 3, the 513-kilometre section between Sivas and Eskişehir, as well as the TANAP Compressor and Flow Measurement Stations Project.

Tekfen Construction Signs Strategic Co-operation Deal in Azerbaijan

A meeting between Tekfen Construction General Manager Levent Kafkaslı and Azerbaijan's Deputy Energy Minister Samir Veliyev at the 25th Caspian Oil and Gas Fair saw the signature of a letter of intent foreseeing strategic co-operation over the development of renewable energy projects.

Tekfen Construction has been active in Azerbaijan since 1996, and to date has completed a large number of projects in the energy field with regard to oil and gas, having built pipelines, oil and natural gas terminals and offshore platforms as part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan crude oil pipeline and Stages 1 and 2 of the Shah Deniz Project.

Export prize for Alanar Fruit

Alanar Fruit, a company which joined the Tekfen family in the first days of 2018, received second prize at the Stars of Export Award Ceremony hosted by the Uludağ Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association for the amount of export it realised last year amongst similar companies registered in the province of Bursa. "This award is meaningful not only to Alanar but to the Turkish agriculture at large and to our farmers and I am confident that with the support of Tekfen we will be able to increase our performance in the future" said Yavuz Taner, Chairman of Alanar and one of Turkey's most knowledgeable person in the sector. Last year, Alanar Fruit exported 8 thousand tons of cherry, fig, apricot, pomegranate, chestnut, persimmon and Japanese plum to England, Russia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapur, Malaysia and Scandinavia.

Tekfen supports TEMA Foundation's campaign for more nature-conscious children

Tekfen Holding took part in the fund-raising campaign of TEMA Foundation for a series of educational activities, the purpose of which is to make childeren more environment-conscious. A charity concert aired live by NTV was held on April 1st in which many popular pop singers and actors volunteered to sing today's hits.

We at Tekfen believe that children must learn about nature first in order to love and to protect it and therefore happily contributed to the cause.

Japan's Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon awarded to Ali Nihat Gökyiğit

Tekfen Holding's Founding and Honorary Chairman Ali Nihat Gökyiğit has been decorated with Japan's highest Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon on February 27, 2018.

2018's first acquisiton by Tekfen

Tekfen Group acquired 90% of Alanar Meyve, one of the largest premium fruit producers in Turkey, and Alara Fidan, its sister company, for a total sum of TL50 million. Murat Gigin, Chairman of the Board of Tekfen Holding, said, "As Tekfen, we have been the leader of agricultural inputs for years with our Toros Tarım brand. Tekfen Philharmonic marks 25th anniversary with celebrations.

Tekfen Philharmonic gave its 25th anniversary concert with its new permanent conductor, Aziz Shokhakimov. The orchestra accompanied Roman Kim, the world-renowned violin virtuoso, and Behzod Abduraimov, the pianist who mesmerizes audiences with his talent.

Under the direction of the new permanent conductor Shokhakimov, the orchestra greeted its audience with an exciting, colourful programme from a wide array of works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Ferit Tüzün, Saint-SaÖ«ns, and Sarasate. Receiving standing ovations with their solo performances, both the 27-year old Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov and the 25-year old Tatar violinist Kim made the night unforgettable for the audience.

The programme of the festival, which will be held between November 13 and 26, was announced at a special evening at Zorlu Performing Arts Centre. The 45th Istanbul Music Festival began last night with the opening ceremony and concert at the ICEC. Bülent Eczacıbaşı, chairman of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts Board of Directors, presented the "Event Sponsor - High Contribution" plaque to Tekfen Foundation, one of the event sponsors of the festival. 45 Turkish companies on the "Top 250 International Contractors in the World" list by the Engineering News-Record have received their awards. The ceremony was organized by the Turkish Contractors Association on February 22, where ֜mit ֖zdemir, Vice President for Contracting Group of Tekfen Holding, received Tekfen Construction's award. World Cup Stadium From Tekfen in Qatar

Tekfen Construction will undertake its third stadium project in Qatar, following İstanbul Atatürk and Baku Olympic Stadiums.

Tekfen-Al Jaber Engineering Joint Venture has been invited by the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy to sign the agreement worth 1,250,000,000 Qatari riyals (342,465,753 US dollars) for the turnkey delivery of the engineering and construction work of the "Main Works for the Fifth Precinct Stadium" Project, where games the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be held.

The stadium will be third large stadium project undertaken by Tekfen Construction, following the İstanbul Atatürk and Baku Olympic Stadiums.

The fourth "Global Best Projects" awards by ENR (Engineering News Record) have been announced. Built by Tekfen Construction in Azerbaijan's capital Baku and opened by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev on May 30, SOCAR Tower was selected by ENR as the "Best International Office Building of the Year."

Prestigious projects from 5 continents and 15 countries received awards in 18 different categories. These projects were evaluated from a variety of aspects including security performance, use of technology, design, and construction quality; also taken into account was the ways in which society and the construction industry benefited from them.

The awards will be given at the ENR Global Construction Summit in New York on October 11.

"Songs the Moon" by Tekfen Philharmonic at the Istanbul Music Festival

Tekfen Philharmonic gave a concert at UNIQ Istanbul Open Air Theater on Sunday night, June 19, as part of the 44th Istanbul Music Festival. Entitled "Songs the Moon," the concert was directed by the young Uzbek conductor Aziz Shokhakimov.

This was the first time the orchestra gave an open air concert at the Music Festival, accompanying Teona Dvali, the Georgian soprano, Andrej Dunaev, the Russian tenor, and Murat Karahan, the Turkish tenor who was a last-minute surprise addition to the programme. The concert took place in the enchanting atmosphere under the moonlight, beginning with favorite arias and ending with Bizet's Carmen Suites to the standing ovation of the audience.

Tekfen Construction Wins Rapid Train Tender

The equal-share joint venture between Tekfen Construction and DoğŸuş Construction has won the tender for the construction of the Afyonkarahisar-Uşak (Banaz) Section of the Ankara-Izmir Rapid Train Project and the Afyonkarahisar Direct Pass Infrastructure for TRY879 million. The completion period for the project is 36 months. This new project is the third railway project Tekfen Construction will be undertaking after the Bursaray light rail system and the Istanbul Levent subway line project.

At the World Stadium Congress 2016 held at Doha, Qatar, the World Stadium Congress Awards Supreme Committee gave Tekfen Construction the "Stadium Contractor of the Year" award.

"Songs to the Full Moon": Tekfen Philharmonic at the 44th Istanbul Music Festival

The new series of the Istanbul Music Festival brings classical music to open air and moonlight, and begins on a moonlit night on Sunday, June 19th at 20 pm. A rich selection of works from "Song to the Moon" from Dvorak's opera Russalka to Puccini's tender "O mio babbino caro" is set to make this night unforgettable in the natural atmosphere of Uniq Istanbul's open air stage. New EPC based contract from TANAP

In addition to its ongoing Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) LOT 3 project, Tekfen Construction has signed a new USD457 million contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction works of the compressor and metering stations for the 1,850 km long Turkish portion of TANAP.

Toros Agri Awarded EEIP

The Mersin Plant of Toros Agri, one of our Group companies, has been awarded with the "Energy-Efficient Industrial Plant" (EEIP) award of the General Directorate of Energy on account of its top performance in decreasing energy intensiveness.

Farewell to Esin Mete

Chairwoman of Tekfen Group Company Toros Tarım and CEO of Tekfen Holding's Agri Division, Esin Mete has retired as of December 31st, 2015 of her own accord. She has worked at Tekfen for 42 years and has contributed to every stage of Toros Tarım's development from its foundations to its current success as Turkey's largest private sector agricultural company. Newly discovered squill named after Ali Nihat Gökyiğit

A new species of Scilla (squill) was discovered in the Alpinic meadows of the Kaçkar Mountains in Northeastern Anatolia, its natural habitat.

Botanists Hasan Yıldırım and Serdar Aslan named Scilla alinihatiana in honour of Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, founder and leading financial contributor of the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden and ANG foundation, for his continued contributions to the Illustrated Flora of Turkey and Turkish botany.

Let the Games Begin...

Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, hosts the Baku 2015 European Games held between June 12 and 28, 2015 for the first time. The opening ceremony of this great sports event, where over 6,000 athletes from 49 countries will compete against each other, was held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, designed and built by Tekfen Construction.

Seating 68,000, the stadium was flooded by the people of Azerbaijan for the opening ceremony, with tickets sold out days before the event. Lady Gaga ravished the whole stadium with her cover of John Lennon's "Imagine."

Murat Gigin the New Chairman of the Board at Tekfen Holding

Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, one of the founding partners of Tekfen Group and Chairman and Managing Director of its Board of Directors, handed over his post and duties to Murat Gigin, member of the Board, at the meeting of the Board of Directors on May 7, 2015.

The Board thanked Gökyiğit for his invaluable work for nearly sixty years, and decided to give him the title of "Founding and Honorary Chairman." Gökyiğit, who will continue to serve on the Board as member, thanked for the title, saying he held many different titles and served in a variety of posts in his lifetime but that this one was for him the pinnacle of his career. Gökyiğit also said that he handed over his post to Murat Gigin with full trust and wished him success.

Gigin joined Tekfen Construction in 1977, serving as General Manager between 1988 and 1998, since which date he has been member of the Board at Tekfen Holding.

Tekfen Construction gets Lot 3 of TANAP Project

Tekfen Construction has signed the Third Lot of the Trans Anatolia Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project for USD565 million.

TANAP will bring the natural gas from Shah Deniz - Stage 2 in Azerbaijan to Turkey and will carry it to Europe; the companies to carry out the land pipeline construction have been selected. A Great Meeting of Scholarship Students!

Organized by Tekfen Foundation, the Tenth Traditional Scholarship Students Meeting was held at Tekfen Tower on Friday, December 19, bringing together students from all over Turkey. News of accident-free run from Baku

Tekfen's ongoing construction of the 68 thousand seated Baku Olympic Stadium, has attained a new high point in work safety. At its peak, 4,500 people worked on the project to finish it in time for the first European Olympic Games to be held in 2015, thus the amount of accident-free hours since the beginning of the construction has reached as high as 13 million manhours. Set to become one of the symbols of modern Baku, the stadium is now 80% completed.

Azfen JV, Tekfen's joint venture company in Azerbaijan, has entered an equal-share partnership with Italian Saipem for the construction of the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPX) project in Azerbaijan and Georgia as part of the Shah Deniz Phase 2 investments.

With a total project value of USD735 million, Tekfen Construction's current backlog has been increased by approximately USD147 million through its share in Azfen.

New additions to Tekfen Construction’s excellent HSE track record

Tekfen Construction projects are reporting news of accident free operations. Under construction by Tekfen, the SOCAR Tower Project, the Azerbaijan State Oil Company’s headquarters in Baku, has completed 5 million man-hours of without Lost Time Incident (LTI). Another piece of good news concerning accident-free operation came from Qatar. The Additional Completion Works Project for the North Road has completed 4 million man-hours of LTI, while the Propylene Oxide Process Unit, whose construction was begun in 2012 for Sadara Chemicals in Saudi Arabia has accomplished 3 million man-hours without LTI. And lastly, Tekfen Construction has been carrying out the construction of the Investment Project at the Samsun Plant of its sister company Toros Tarım, with 1 million man-hours without LTI so far. These achievements were documented as well as rewarded with certificates by their respective clients.

Esin Mete among the 50 most powerful women in Turkey

The popular business magazine Fortune Türkiye cited Esin Mete, Chairwoman of Toros Tarım, as one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Turkey." The magazine depicted 50 professional women playing important roles in Turkish business life, and described Esin Mete as "a voluntary ambassador warning countries about hunger and diminishing resources on the global arena."

The magazine's April issue featuring an interview with Esin Mete emphasizes her work as president of IFA (International Fertilizer Industry Association) besides her role as top executive at Toros Tarım, presenting Mete as a "fighter" in the agricultural industry dominated almost totally by men. Underlining the fact that Esin Mete is the first woman president of IFA, the magazine described her mission during her two-year term as "bringing to the attention of all countries, and especially Turkey, the added value of soil and fertilizers and the issue of rapidly diminishing resources."

Tekfen Foundation Supports Theater Festival

Tekfen Foundation has become one of the performance sponsors for the 19th Istanbul Theater Festival to be held between May 10 and June 5, 2014. Tekfen Foundation has given its support to King (My Fool) Lear by Altıdan Sonra Tiyatro and Becoming a Rhinoceros 2.014 by Şahika Tekand.

King (My Fool) Lear is an interpretation of Shakespeare's famous play, probably staged thousands of times, as a retelling of the story by the king's fool, the one person nearest to Lear who has the courage to tell it as it is. The play will be performed at ܜsküdar Tekel Sahnesi on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16.

Becoming a Rhinoceros 2.014 is an entertaining and fast-paced contemporary comedy written and directed by Şahika Tekand, and will be performed again at Üsküdar Tekel Sahnesi on Wednesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 5. Staged for the first time during the 95-96 season, the play will be re-interpreted by Studio Oyuncuları, founded by Şahika Tekand, on their 25th anniversary.

Tekfen Construction Wins Export Award

Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), a union of six associations collectively responsible for approximately 30 percent of Turkey's total exports, awarded the companies that had a share in this impressive success. Now a traditional IMMIB event which has been taking place for seven years, the award ceremony saw the highest exporters of 2013 receive 168 awards in 56 categories.

Held at Istanbul SwissÖ´tel on February 19, 2014, Tekfen Construction was second in the "Highest Exporting Contractor Companies" category. Representing Tekfen Construction, Logistics Director Serdar Akgönül received the award from Nihat Zeybekçi, Minister of Economy. Polimeks was first, and ENKA was third in the same category.

Esin Mete at the Economist Summit

As the world population rapidly increases and natural resources and arable lands diminish, climate change has reached alarming dimensions, bringing humankind closer to the serious danger of hunger and drought. In the periods ahead, this issue will be at the top of the agenda for national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as world media.

Within this framework, the British weekly economics magazine The Economist has organized a summit entitled "Feeding the World" in London on February 13 to draw attention to hunger and nutrition issues throughout the world. Esin Mete, president of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) and CEO of Toros-Agri attended the summit alongside industry leaders, governmental officers, NGOs, and scientists.

Accompanied by Tekfen Philharmonic, Andrea Bocelli mesmerizes Istanbul...

World-renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli gave a magnificent concert in front of an audience of 9000 in İstanbul on Saturday night, February 22, as part of celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Turkish largest environmental NGO, TEMA Foundation.

As Tekfen Foundation's token of support for TEMA, Bocelli was accompanied by Tekfen Philharmonic, a 75-member orchestra directed by guest conductor Marcello Rota. The concert lasted nearly two hours, and the audience gave a standing ovation to Bocelli, who came back on stage for three encores.

Among the audience were Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, founding partner of Tekfen Holding and the TEMA Foundation, Hayrettin Karaca, Gökyiğit's companion in safeguarding nature, and members of TEMA's board of directors.

Tekfen Holding Sponsors 3rd International Green Building Summit

The 3rd International Green Building Summit was held on 21-22 February 2014 by the Turkish Green Building Council (ÇEDBİK). Tekfen Holding, whose founding partner Ali Nihat Gökyiğit is also the founding Chairman ÇEDBİK, was among the main sponsors of the event.

Aiming to increase social awareness and urge the construction industry to abide by sustainable principles, the organization has picked "Sustainability - Cutting Edge" as its main theme this year. Many national and international experts attended the two-day summit, which hosted a number of conferences, workshops, training sessions, and seminars.

Tekfen Philhar-Mini painting competition ends!

Tekfen Philharmonic gave two children's concerts branded as "Tekfen Philhar-Mini" in Istanbul and Bursa, under the conductorship of young Singaporean Darrell Ang. A drawing competition was announced at the concerts, inviting children to illustrate whatever comes to their mind while listening to the works being performed. The winner would get his&her favourite instrument as a prize.

Team Tekfen, "the most cheerful team," at INDOOR CUP

A collaboration of the sportd daily Fanatik and Antrenmanyap, the intercompany Fanatik Indoor Cup was held at Ataköy Aslı ևakır Indoor Athletics Center on January 12.

29 companies from various industries participated in the organization, where Team Tekfen produced a champion and two members came in 3rd and 4th, and the team itself received "the most cheerful team" award.

Going Strong in Azerbaijan

Active in Azerbaijan since 1995, Tekfen Construction undertook two other vital projects during the last week of December as part of the Shah Deniz Phase 2 Investments.

ATA Consortium (AMEC-Tekfen-Azfen) signed an agreement with BP Exploration (Shah Deniz) and undertook the construction, installation, and delivery of two offshore platforms and their connection bridges, weighing a total of 26,442 tons. The estimated budget of the project is USD975 million, and together with its share in Azfen, Tekfen's portion will amount to approximately USD496 million.

Esin Mete at United Nation's Meeting

On November 25-27, a delegation of 16 representing IFA attended the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations in New York.

The team, headed by IFA President Esin Mete, attended bilateral meetings with country missions and key UN staff involved in the working process on Sustainable Development Goals during which they advocated for a stand-alone goal for eradicating hunger and malnutrition and highlighted the key role of fertilizers at the nexus of food, nutrition, human health and economic development.

Founded in the memory of Necati AkçağŸlılar, one of the founding partners of Tekfen Holding, the TC MEB Toros Tarım Necati AkçağŸlılar Anadolu High School in Tekkeköy, Samsun, was opened with an official ceremony on Monday, September 16, 2013.

Tekfen Foundation Sponsors the 13th Istanbul Biennial

The biggest international art exhibition organized in Turkey since 1987, the Istanbul Biennial constitutes an important ground for the latest debates on the arts, as well as playing a role in the rediscovery of the city's history through venues, and introducing contemporary artists from Turkey and many other countries to the international scene.

Scheduled to take place between September 14 and October 20, 2013, the 13th Istanbul Biennial can be seen free of charge. The focus of the Biennial will be the concept of public sphere as a political forum, with the aim of establishing a basis for generating ideas and forms on contested issues such as civilization, barbarianism, democracy, spatial-economic justice and the role of contemporary art.
